ERRA Share Visualizer for Cover of “Stockholm Syndrome”

Last month, prolific metalcore progressives ERRA announced the deluxe version of their latest album S/T, out March 18 via UNFD. The album is available for pre-order here.

Today, the band has shared the visualizer for its unexpected yet unforgettable cover of Muse’s “Stockholm Syndrome.” Listen here

ERRA put its own DNA-distinct stamp on the track and the accompanying visualizer takes fans through a labyrinth of twists and turns.

“The first time I heard Muse’s ‘Stockholm Syndrome,’ I thought, ‘This song is begging to be covered by a metal band,'” shares guitarist and clean vocalist Jesse Cash about the impetus for choosing to interpret this song. “It has aggressive riffs, soaring vocals, keyboard arpeggios, and a big ending breakdown. It has all the necessary materials to be contextualized into an ERRA song.”

He continues, “The chromatic guitar octaves in the verses also left me a lot of room to play with some chromatic groove riffs in the style of Meshuggah. I realized as long as I maintained the root notes of those original octaves, I could kind of be as creative as I wanted during those verses. I also adjusted the original tuning from Drop D to Drop E and tuned the guitar down an entire octave to make the song low, heavy, and more akin to the range ERRA generally tunes in.”

The expanded edition of S/T is beefed up with seven additional tracks, including a feature from Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante, along with three covers. The full track listing is below.

With touring off the table for most of 2021, the band found other means of creative outlet, and opted to re-enter the studio with producers Carson and Grant around the time of the release of what would go on to become their career-defining self titled album. On that album, the band confronted depression, anxiety, and desperation throughout. They took listeners on a near-out-of-body journey to Aokigahara, the infamous Suicide Forest of Japan; into episodic storytelling that would make Black Mirror writers proud; and into the literary works of Cormac McCarthy and Hubert Selby Jr. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland, it served as a definitive mission statement for the band, the members of which are already well-respected players revered for their inspiring technicality and raw, natural talent. The deluxe edition builds upon that foundation.
