The world is on fire as insanity and chaos run rampant, and A Place To Kill have crafted an appropriate soundtrack.
A Place To Kill, the new industrial project from Richard Patrick of Filter and Jim Louvau of There Is No Us, are set to unleash their self-titled debut EP on June 5. Louvau handles lead vocals, while Patrick drives the music and production.
Louvau, a renowned photographer, director, and musician, has long been connected to Patrick’s world. After first seeing Filter during the Short Bus era in high school, the two would cross paths repeatedly. Louvau interviewed Patrick ahead of a 2008 Filter show, and years later, Patrick attended just the second-ever There Is No Us performance at The Roxy. Their creative conversations never stopped, eventually leading to Louvau contributing backing vocals to Filter’s “Murica” in 2020. A Place To Kill feels like the full-circle payoff, bringing both artists together to create something perfectly suited for the present.
If you are not angry, you are not paying attention. A Place To Kill grabs you by the head and refuses to let go. From the start, Louvau’s aggressive screams cut through dense, industrial-leaning electronic production. Patrick builds a sonic wall of heavy distorted synths, deep grooves, and eerie atmosphere that amplifies the tension.
The EP serves as an outlet for modern-day chaos, with lyrical themes circling degradation, greed, lies, abuse, anger, fear, violence, indoctrination, and frustration. It is not subtle and it is not meant to be.
Standout track “What Feels Right” leans into a more controlled groove post-intro, offering a strong contrast to the relentless intensity elsewhere. Dynamic vocal shifts, stronger guitar presence, and a tighter structure make this a defining moment on the EP for me.
The self-titled debut from A Place To Kill is heavy, confrontational, and unapologetically intense. It does not aim to comfort, it aims to provoke. And it succeeds.
Drive with caution, leadfoot is a side effect.
