“The 67th annual Grammy Awards, set to take place on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, have unveiled a compelling lineup of nominees in the metal and rock categories. In the “Best Metal Performance” category, heavyweights Metallica, Judas Priest, Gojira, Knocked Loose, and Spiritbox are vying for the top spot. Metallica is nominated for “Screaming Suicide” from their 2023 album 72 Seasons, while Judas Priest is recognized for “Crown of Horns”. Gojira’s powerful performance of “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça Ira!)”, which gained widespread attention during the Olympics, is also in the running. Knocked Loose’s intense collaboration with Poppy on “Suffocate” and Spiritbox’s haunting “Cellar Door” round out the nominees.
In the “Best Rock Performance” category, a diverse range of artists is represented. The Beatles, with their historic track “Now and Then” featuring John Lennon’s original vocals enhanced by Artificial Intelligence, are nominated alongside contemporary rock acts. The Black Keys are up for “Beautiful People (Stay High)”, Green Day for “The American Dream Is Killing Me”, and Idles for “Gift Horse”. Pearl Jam’s “Dark Matter” and St. Vincent’s “Broken Man” also make the list, showcasing the breadth of talent in the rock genre.
These nominations highlight the evolving landscape of metal and rock music, with both veteran bands and newer acts receiving recognition. The final voting round, which will take place from December 12, 2024, to January 3, 2025, will determine the winners, as decided by the Recording Academy’s voting members. This year’s Grammys also introduce several updates, including new eligibility criteria and the “Harry Belafonte Best Song For Social Change Award”, reflecting the Academy’s commitment to inclusivity and innovation in the music industry.” (Perplexity)
